If you're new to dirt bike riding, there are some maintenance tasks you can't neglect after a ride. To ensure your bike stays in top shape for longer, take care of these maintenance tasks regularly.

Maintenance Tips for Beginning Dirt Bike Riders

Buying a dirt bike is a real investment, so it only makes sense to take care of your new bike. Cleaning it after every ride and performing maintenance are a must if you want to keep your bike in great shape. If you're not sure where to start with your maintenance, these tips can help you get the hang of it.

Wash and Dry Your Bike

Since dirt bikes take quite a beating every time they're used, they can end up covered in dirt, sand, and mud after a day out. Although you may be tired after a ride, it's crucial that you wash and dry your bike in order to keep it in better shape. Removing this built on grime can keep your bike well-protected for longer. Grab a bucket of water and an assortment of brushes to remove all of the grime. You can use a power washer to get the job done, but you'll need to be extra careful not to get water in electrical parts and you'll want to avoid pushing water into your bike's crevices. Once it's clean, dry it off completely before starting to inspect the rest of it.

Clean the Air Filter

Once your bike is nice and clean, it's time to check on your air filter. All of the dirt you're riding through can build up in your bike's air filter, meaning it won't be very clean next time you head out on the track. Riding around with an air filter that's clogged is comparable to trying to go out for a run with a stuffy nose. It's good practice to remove your air filter after a ride and give it a good cleaning. Wash your air filter and once it's dry add a good amount of air filter oil to it. This will ensure your bike is ready to ride next time you head out on the track.

Give It a Synthetic Oil Change

Just like a car and a motorcycle, your dirt bike will also need oil changes to keep the engine working properly. You'll be better off investing in a quality synthetic oil for your dirt bike if you want to keep your engine working sharply for longer. How often you need to change your dirt bike's oil will depend on a number of factors. Check your manufacturer's recommendations for more accurate information. Of course, it also helps to check on your oil and assess the condition it's in. Don't neglect this task and hope it's ok since this can lead to serious engine troubles in the future. To keep your dirt bike in the best shape for longer, give it synthetic oil changes in Austin at regular intervals. Find the best products for your dirt bike by contacting AMSOIL Dealer- Carol Bell. They will be happy to recommend quality products like AMSOIL's 10W-40 Synthetic Dirt Bike Oil. To learn about more products like this, give them a call at (512) 658-0357.

Check on Your Bike's Fluids

Your dirt bike's motor oil isn't the only fluid you'll have to check on. There is also the coolant and the brake fluid to keep an eye on. Since brake fluid tends to absorb moisture which can cause it's performance to decline, you will have to check on it often. Dirt bikes tends to heat up quite a bit because of the amount of pressure they're under, so they rely on the coolant quite a bit to keep things at a normal operating temperature. Because of this, it's very important to check on your coolant often and change it when it's no longer in optimal condition.

Maintain Your Tires

After a ride, your tires may not be at their best. Start your tire maintenance by checking on the spokes. These tend to loosen up, so have your tools handy so you can tighten them back up. If you forget to do this and ride with loose spokes, your wheels can fall out of alignment, leaving you with bigger issues. Finally, check on your tire pressure. Your tires may lose pressure after an intense ride, so getting them back up to the right pressure level is a must before your next outing.
