It's tough to find the time to keep your car clean when you have a tight schedule. In this post, AMSOIL Dealer - Carol Bell in Austin has come up with a couple of suggestions to wash your car at home if you have little time on your hands.

Don't Wash It Under the Sun Beams

The extreme heat instantly evaporates water and soap, limiting their proper execution. Also, the sun will change the characteristics of the products, crystals, surfaces, and paint due to heat. Throwing iced water to a windshield that has been in the sun could indeed crash it, or an abrupt temperature variation could keep the wax from doing its job.

Try to Sort Your Rags and Sponges

When people have no time to wash their car and clean it inside, it's not unusual to resort to dry fabrics to remove dirt; however, this practice will harm the vehicle's surface in the long run. It's better to fetch a sponge to do this job since dry rags can scratch the car or its paint. Also, if you see that your vehicle is full of dirt, it's advised to use a wet cloth if you don't have much time to keep it clean.

Never Dry and Wax With the Same Towel

Things will get messy if you do this. Have two different towels for each job. Rags and towels made of microfiber are more delicate with paint. Forget about household cotton towels or kitchen sponges. When it comes to your vehicle, resort to microfiber cloths only. Moreover, if your car is filthy, try rinsing it with plenty of water before using soap or shampoo.

When Washing, Always Have Two Buckets of Water on Hand

You can fill one with shampoo and the other with water only. Dip the rag or sponge into the mix and when you are done, soak it in the bucket with only water. This way, the dirt will remain in the pot with only water, and you won't take it back to the soapy water.

Each Surface Requires a Different Upkeep

  • Glass and Car Surface: use regular car soap that creates a fair amount of foam, but be careful to dry the surface.
  • Vinyl: warm soapy water works best. Always dry with a clean towel, and don't let the material absorb the water to avoid any damage to the surface.
  • Leather: use neutral soap and purified water. Also, dry as soon as you can in a padding motion.
  • Fiberglass and Plastic: you can use a solution of 1/10 of chlorine in 9/10 of water.

Keep the Car Covered

To maintain the car clean, you can always cover it with a special tarp. Yes, it can be a bit tiresome to put on and take it off every day, but doing so will protect your car's paint from dust, streaks, and birds' droppings.

Keys Are a Critical Element

Although they are not a part of the car, they are the object that can hold and transport a lot of germs, with people often forgetting they have left them on a dirty surface, so they must disinfect the surface constantly. Similarly, the glasses can become high contact points without noticing them, especially the side windshields.

Wash the Engine of Your Car Once in a While

Spray the motor with the wash spray extensively on all surfaces at the top and, if possible, at the engine's bottom. Let it penetrate as much as possible into the corners of the engine bay. After that, allow the product to sit for a bit to act and dissolve all contaminants. Then stir it off using a hose to remove excess from the surfaces, which will look like soap suds. Lastly, washing your car's engine will keep it from suffering too much.

Don't forget to perform an oil change once in a while, with the help of AMSOIL Signature Series 5W-30, which extends the vehicle's life and outperforms the results of other brands.
